By choosing a career in tourism, you will become an ambassador of cultures, history and nature of your country. Tour guiding, as a career, is recognised as a key contributor to job creation within the tourism sector. There are essential links between tour guiding and other tourism activities. These include encouraging the growth of regional tourism markets and routes; encouraging local communities to participate in hospitality; the development of rural communities; and the contribution to the development of a globally competitive tourism industry which keeps ahead of the changing needs of international tourism. Tourism is a very specialised field that requires in depth study and assessment of a particular area.

Tourism jobs involve at least 18 weeks of learning and 1 week of work experience. Whether you are thinking about a position in airline reservations, airline check in, a travel agency, a tour wholesaler, hotel, rental car firm or tourism company, you need the skills and qualifications that employers research.

Pilots, for instance, are highly trained professionals who fly aircraft to transport passengers and cargo, or for more unusual tasks, such as dusting crops, spreading seed for reforestation, testing aircraft, directing fire fighting efforts, tracking criminals, monitoring traffic, and rescuing and evacuating injured persons. So, what was originally planned to be a tourism career, often ends in a totally different domain given the circumstances.

The operating sectors of the tourism field include also fishing, farming knowledge, tour marketing and sales as well as hunting. Management and sales staff are also part of the field’s activities. Jobs in tourism can also be found in trade, research and administration, ecology. In the future, new employment opportunities will be available in the tourism business in general.
